Fixed odds betting is gambling involving the financial market. Bookmakers present odds for the price of a certain stock or bond. A bet says a financial instrument will increase or decrease.
If the odds are 5/1 a bettor would make £50 from a £10 wager. If the bettor loses the only loss is the initial wager of £10. For this reason this type of investing is called fixed odds.
In fixed odds, one knows the potential winnings and losses. This information is known prior to placing a wager on a bet. The bettor can make the decision on how much money can be risked.
Fixed odds betting is a lot less risky than financial spread betting. Wagers made by bettors either result in their favour or not. The ending market price isn't important in fixed odds.
Once the market has hit the set quote price, the bettor has won. The market price could continue to rise but will not affect profits. This offers traders an advantage in deciding which bets to make.
Fixed odds does not offer the potential to make a lot of money. More money can be made in spread betting than in fixed odds. Fixed odds has the advantage of knowing the profits or losses will be.
Fixed odds betting can still be made on the financial markets. Therefore, bettors can bet on markets they are familiar with. Odds on these markets can be found through different bookmakers.
Three different types of odds are used in financial betting. Fractional odds are the most popular in the UK and Ireland. These odds are set up as a fraction, such as 3/1 by a firm.
Decimal odds are used by Europe and Canada and look like this, 4.00. Money line odds are predominantly used in American financial odds. These are positive or negative numbers such as +300 or -120.
Fixed odds is a less risky form of trading than spread betting. Betting on fixed odds lets a bettor know exactly how much is at risk. Fixed odds may be a good way to learn about the different markets.
